Alias: The Cold Shoulder, The Bitch
Quotes: "Its not like i-i-i-i did it for you! Baka(Idiot)!",
(some one references the Tsundere being nice) "I don't remember saying/doing that(blush)"
Definition: A Tsundere is a character that comes off as hostile or rude, initially towards the main interest, but slowly warms up to said interest.
Why do people like it: I can't speak for everyone, but one of the reasons people like the Tsundere is because everyone knows one. Everyone knows one "Bitch"(pardon my french, but i never said this was family freindly), that eventually softens up. Also from a third person point of view it can be seen as the "playing hard to get" character.
Why is she so cold?: This right here is why the Tsundere is one of the stronger characters when it comes to story building. A (good) Tsundere isn't cold for no reason, she has had some kind of past issue that gives her trust issues, or is highly proficient in something causing her to look down at others.
Examples:
Hitagi Senjougahara- Monogatari series: Senjougahara is an amazing character, drifting perfectly in the Tsundere type. Having been attacked by a old Japanese spirit known as, The weight crab, she gives the weight of all her problems at home to it. In this process she end up losing her actual weight, keeping the same frame but weighing no more than a slice of bread. She lives years (about 2/3) with this problem, and her parents try picking up specialist to help. Eventually a cult absorbs her mother, and mom allows the cult to try and help, but the leader just attempts something inappropriate. After Senjougahara strikes the man, injuring him, her mother tends to the man leaving Senjougahra in confused and lonely state. Her father upset about this divorces the mother and takes Senjougahara. Because of her curse, shes unable to make contact with anyone, else they find out, leaving her with out friends for these years as well. Until she comes across the main character Araragi, who is actually able to help her lose the curse, gaining her back her physical weight and her emotional weight. She slowly begins to warm up to Araragi from that point forward, to the point where they are now in a relationship.
Vegeta Breigh: After coming to earth to find a powerful opponent Vegeta is met with Goku, after several defeats and a romance with a human Women, Vegeta joins forces with Goku. Eventually Starting a (Non-Romantic) Tsundere with Goku and others. This is an example of Someone initially hating, even being hostile towards the interest and becoming Allies if not friends later. This is a perfect scene to show you what I mean. A Non-romantic Tsundere relationship can be described as a Bromance.
The Payoff: Otherwise known as the turning point, the one thing that makes all the Cold shoulders, threats, rude comments, and attempts on the interest' life worth it? The Blush! The moment a tsundere blushes, not an embarrassed blush, not drunken red faced blush, but the "My heart just skipped a beat" Blush. When that moment occurs, you the viewer, know things are changing.
The Problem: Tsunderes are generally Strong characters, emotionally and physically, not ever really showing weakness or faltering under pressure. When they begin entering the "Dere" portion of their cycle they usually become weaker and almost dependent on the interest pushing them from the role they had before. A prime example is Asuna from Sword Art Online, she plays the first half of the series as a leader and a strong contender, but after she enters the "Dere" mode she literally becomes a damsel in distress.
Not all Tsunderes have this fate, but its more common than it should be. This has been a page from the -Dere Dairies, I hope you enjoyed, to finish things off here are some of those Tsundere blushes and moments.
